Prerequisites: This course is open to the general public. IAA Diploma Program students are required to complete the Natal Studies Module before taking this course. This course is one The wonderful Elena Lumen PhD, will be running an intensive workshop across two days, condensing a 5-week Introductory Certificate Course into these two days.
She will delve into "Horary Astrology" — a branch of astrology that provides highly reliable and practical answers to life’s biggest questions.
You’ll learn the basic principles of Horary Astrology and obtain a certificate that forms the first stage of becoming a Certified Horary Astrology Practitioner with The International Academy of Astrology.
This qualification is recognized by ISAR and other International Astrology organizations and bodies.
This workshop will teach you how Horary Astrology works and why it doesn’t require a birth time, how it provides clear, precise guidance when you need it most and the step-by-step process of reading a Horary Chart.

The Tools & Foundations (normally - 5 Weeks)
Learn the essential building blocks of Horary astrology, from classical foundations to the practical steps of chart interpretation. This course provides the technical and philosophical tools needed to begin reading charts with clarity and confidence.

Session 1: Foundations of Horary Astrology
· Origins and evolution of Horary
· Role of significators and querent/quesited
· The 12 houses and their meanings in horary
Session 2: House Strengths and Lunar Influence
· Angularity and house strength hierarchy
· The Moon as co-significator; translation and collection of light
· Voids, swiftness/slowness, and motion direction
Sunday 20th July 2025
Session 3: Planetary Profiles and Essential Nature
· Essential vs. accidental dignity
· Planetary speeds, visibility, sect, combustion, and retrograde motion
· Planetary temperament and natural significations
Session 4: Core Delineation Techniques
· Step-by-step method of Horary interpretation
· Aspects (applying/separating, major/minor)
· Timing indicators; dignity & debility in chart judgment
· “Considerations Before Judgment” – what they are and how to use them wisely
also, Receptions, Synthesis, and Methods of Perfection
· Receptions (mutual, one-sided, with aspect, without) and how they affect outcomes
· Methods of perfection: aspectual perfection, collection, translation, and mutual application
· Bringing it all together: synthesizing planetary strength, dignity, aspect, and reception into judgment
Teacher's bio: Elena Lumen has been a professional astrologer since 2000, with a special interest and extensive training in classical astrology. Before dedicating herself fully to astrology, Elena worked as a psychotherapist for a decade, bringing a unique depth of understanding to her astrological work. She also holds a PhD in psychology. Since 2015, Elena has been teaching horary and electional astrology professionally at a top US astrology school and at her own institution, the Lumen School of Classical Astrology. She has been a faculty member at the International Academy of Astrology since 2018 and has also taught at Kepler College, the Portland School of Astrology, LCAA, and numerous other astrological organizations in the US and abroad. Valued as a master teacher for her engaged, clear, structured yet warm approach to her classes, Elena is a frequent presenter at leading astrological organizations such as ISAR, AFAN, and NCGR, as well as international groups. She is a sought-after speaker and teacher who collaborates with many astrological organizations worldwide.
